Good morning – Shalom – Peace be with you!
Woke up today thinking about Carl Jung and Jesus and Hafiz. How in many ways they are somewhat similar. The words of Carl Jung: “As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being.”
And the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:14-15: “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.”
Note that Jesus does not say some of you are the light of the world. Nor does he say if you jump through six hoops you may become the light of the world. No! Clear and direct. We are spiritual beings on a human journey just like he was. Jesus seeks to awaken us to who we are in God and to who God is in us here and now.
And the words of Hafiz: “I wish I could show you when you are lonely or in darkness the astonishing light of your own being.”
Friends – you are the light of the world! Let your light shine! Let your love flow!
I welcome your responses!
Music for your prayer, contemplation, and reflection suggested to my by a good friend in Onancock, VA. Let the music and images flow through you – opening inner spaces within you – new depths of your own being. There is so much more within you.
“When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You know that your name is safe in their mouth.”
-Billy, age 4, from Breathing Together: Quotations on the Mystery of Love by Richard Kehl
You may want to pay attention today to how people say your name, and to how you say the names of others.
With you in awakening to the mystery of God’s Presence in our midst, here and now.
We are all sparks of the Divine flame
Blessed Be
